n July 17, 2010 of Fort Washington, MD. Beloved husband of Remedios M. Freeman; loving father of James Freeman of Havlock, NC, Ronald Freeman of Aiken, SC, Janet Delwiche of Stafford, VA, Beverly Weaver of Newport, RI, John Freeman of Brooklyn, NY, and Susan Taylor of Jacksonville, NC; brother of Dorothy Solinske of Ellington, FL. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to LCDR Freeman's Life Celebration at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd. Oxon Hill, MD 20745 on Thursday from 6 to 9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, July 23 at 11:00AM at St. Columba Catholic Church, 7800 Livingston Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Interment Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 9am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Capital Hospice, 9200 Basil Ct., Suite 200, Largo, MD 20774. LCDR Freeman was born in Mattydale, NY, enlisted in the Navy December 6, 1946 and retired June 30, 1974. He spent 15 years in enlisted status as an Aerographers Mate and the remainder as a Meteorological Officer. Assignments included the Navy Weather Schools in Lakehurst, NJ, Sea-Ice Forecaster at Kodiak, Alaska, Head of Ice Reconnaissance at the Naval Oceanographic Office and the Ice Department at Fleet Weather Central, Suitland, MD. He was designated as a Flight Meteorologist and spent many hours in naval aircraft, especially over arctic waters. He was involved in projects which included Submarine Under-Ice Operations, resupply of Arctic and Antarctic bases, and research activities in polar waters. He was recognized world-wide for his knowledge of sea-ice.
