anelle D. “Nell” Talbert, 92, passed away on December 13, 2020 at the Seasons Hospice at Northwest Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Born on February 15, 1928 in Galax, VA to the late Arna and Iva Dalton, Nell graduated in 1945 from Hampton High School in Hampton Roads, VA. She got married in 1947 and moved to Washington, DC where she and her husband lived for more than twenty years before moving to Temple Hills, MD in 1968. Nell enjoyed a successful career in the U.S. House of Representatives, serving most notably as receptionist for the late Senator Edward Bartlett when he was the congressional delegate from the Territory of Alaska and the late Congressman John Anderson from California. Nell retired in 1989 after almost 40 years of service. In her spare time and in retirement, Nell enjoyed sewing and gardening.
In addition to her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Farest G. Talbert who died in 1989; three children, Garland F. Talbert, Teresa L. Barkley and David W. Talbert; and her brother Richard A. Dalton. She is survived by her son, Mark R. (Amy) Talbert of Huntingtown, MD; five grandchildren, John F. and Christopher H. Lane, Melinda Barkley Davis, and David J. and Andrew W. Talbert; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.
