L

aura T. Reilly, 91, a 12-year resident of Annapolis and previously of Washington, DC and Plantation Key, FL, died March 28, 2012 at Anne Arundel Medical Center of natural causes. Born August 27, 1920 in Washington, DC, she graduated from Eastern High School at age 15 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from American University with a Liberal Arts Degree at age 19. She was a member of the Gamma Delta Chapter of the Phi Mu Sorority. Laura was a pathbreaker for professional women having served as a secretary to the Assistant U.S. Surgeon General. At age 18, Laura joined the Order of the Eastern Star, #61 in Upper Marlboro, where she served as a Worthy Matron. She also served as a State of Maryland Grand Chapter Officer. She was a fan of crossword puzzles and enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling the world. Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Francis M. Reilly, Jr., who died in 2004. She is survived by three children, Sharon (James) McInnis of Annapolis, John (Fe) Reilly of Randolph, NJ and Michael (Carmela) Reilly of Arnold; five grandchildren, Jennifer Eaby, Rachel Meisel, John Reilly, Jr., Sarah Chiaverini and Kathleen McInnis; and four great-grandchildren, Elisabeth and Gabriella Eaby, Isabella Chiaverini and Andrew H. Meisel. Friends are invited to Laura’s Life Celebration on Friday, March 30, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater where Laura’s funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. A private family graveside service will be held at Washington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 1850 York Road, Ste. D, Timonium, MD 21093.
