Laurie was born and raised in Southeast Washington, DC. She later moved to Reedville, VA, with her husband, Thomas Samuels. After almost 15 months in the hospital fighting with everything she had, Laurie sadly passed away on December 20, 2021, with her Momma and Aunt by her side.

Laurie is survived by her devoted mother: Joyce Powell, her father: the late Thomas Powell Sr., her two children: Tiffany Powell and Joshua Tevault, her sisters and their husbands: Tina & Eduardo Mariano and Sandy & Steve Ghoorau, her late brother: Thomas Powell Jr., her husband: Thomas Samuels, her aunt: Janet Mozingo (her other mother), and her nieces and nephews: Holly, Katelyn, Jordan, and Samuel.

Thank you to everyone that has prayed for Laurie. She is at peace now and no longer in pain.
