awrence "Larry" Leahy, 82, a resident of Southern Anne Arundel County for 36 years, passed away after a lengthy illness on Monday, June 17. Born on June 4, 1942, in Baltimore, MD, to the late Edward Lawrence and Louise Meding Leahy, Larry earned a Master of Education degree in Secondary Administration. Larry's dedication to education and community was unparalleled. He served as a Social Studies teacher, Head Coach of Cross County and Track & Field at Surrattsville High School from 1966 to 1977. Larry also was a Secondary High School Administrator in Prince George's County Public Schools. His former students remember him as an exceptional teacher, coach, mentor, and leader. He treated everyone with respect, providing guidance and a stable environment. His dedication, discipline, sacrifice, and hard work were an inspiration to all. Larry was a charter member and past President of both the South County Rotary and College Park Rotary Clubs . He was named Rotarian of the Year in 2012. He also served as the District 7620 Area Governor for 5 years, Awards Chairman for 19 years and served in many leadership positions. Larry enjoyed reading and following the University of Maryland sports. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Leahy. Larry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Buck Leahy; his two sons, Mark John Leahy of Edgewater, MD and Lawrence Bradley (Heather) Leahy of West River, MD; his two siblings, Cindy Leahy Kucher of Baltimore, MD and Martin Leahy of Phoenix, MD and two granddaughters, Harper Elizabeth and Sylvie Rose Leahy. Friends are invited to celebrate Larry's life on Tuesday, June 25 from 3:30 to 7:30 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 26, at 10:30 am at Trinity Episcopal Church in Upper Marlboro, MD. Interment Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Lawrence Leahy's name to the South Arundel Rotary Club Foundation, c/o John May, 1101 Mercantile Ln., Ste. 260, Largo, MD 20774.
