Lawrence H. Bessler - Obituary

awrence Henry “Larry” Bessler, 92, an 8-year resident of Deale and formerly of Dunkirk and Ft. Washington, MD, passed away on July 10, 2022 at his home. Born on February 6, 1930 in Lake George, MN to the late Carl and Agnes Bessler, Larry served in the U.S. Army for more than 22 years, assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. He retired in 1977 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Larry earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in education from the George Washington University. He enjoyed a career teaching mathematics in the Prince George’s County school system and at Cardinal Hickey Academy. Larry enjoyed playing golf and tennis, snow skiing, yachting and traveling. He was a member of the Tantallon Country Club and Macho-HeMan Ski Club. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Kim Moore Bessler; his two sons, Mark of Los Angeles, CA and Larry II and his wife, Lisa of Chicago, IL; one sister, Betty Beard of Clearbrooke, MN; and two grandsons, Cohen and Nigel. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday, July 18 at 11 a.m. in Our Lady’s Chapel at St.Mary’s Catholic Church of Piscataway, 2312 Floral Park Road, Clinton, MD. Larry will be buried in the church cemetery next to his first wife, Mary Alice (née Mahoney) who died in 1989.
