awrence “Larry” Grigsby, 90, of Harwood, MD died on February 17, 2012, at the Mandrin Inpatient Care Center following a brief illness. Originally from King George, VA, Larry served in the US Army prior to and during WWII. He was stationed in the Washington area where he served as a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, the White House, and various government buildings, including the FBI building where he guarded the eight German saboteurs in 1942. He deployed to Cuba, where he met and married the love of his life, Luisa Rojas. They returned and resided in the DC area for 51 years where Larry had a career in the bakery business, working for Southern, Bond, and Koester bakeries.
Following retirement, Larry relocated to live with his daughter in Harwood, MD. He is survived by Luisa, his wife of 66 years; his daughter, Florie Bozzella; his grandchildren, Kristen Bozzella Dixon (Paul) and Kevin Bozzella; his nephew, George Lampin; and, his best friend, Skoshi.
He was predeceased by a son, Lawrence, in 1954.
Friends are invited to Larry’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Friday, February 24 from 1pm until time of service at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made Mandrin Inpatient Care Center, 3675 Solomons Island Road, Harwood, MD 20776. Interment Arlington Cemetery at a later date.
