Lawrence O. Jones - Obituary

awrence O. Jones, a life-long resident of Washington DC, died after prolonged illness on December 14, 2021, at the age of 70. Lawrence was born on May 14, 1951, to Erlene Jones and Henry Collins, nurtured and raised by his mother and grandmother Ida Jones. He attended Western High School, graduated in 1969. He was a life- long Federal Government Employee (over 40 years of service), which included the U.S. Patten Office and the U.S. Department of Labor. He retired in 2011. Lawrence’s first-born son, Lawrence Martin Jones (Marty) preceded him in death (Gail Trimmer, mother). On January 2, 1977, he married Shelia, who worked at the U.S. Department of Commerce. They welcomed four wonderful children; Lorenzo Oliver Jones (preceded him in death), Olivia Yvonne Jones, Stacey Marie Jones, and Lawrence Oliver Jones, Jr. Lawrence and Shelia were divorce in 1995. Lawrence loved music and photography, winning awards in the community for some of his entries. He mentored and encouraged his brother Donnell’s emerging photographic development. Another of Lawrence’s favorite pastimes was fishing. He often shared that it brought him such tranquil joy and peace. Family members remember Lawrence to be caring and loving. He loved his cousins and nieces. Lawrence is survived by his three children, two brothers, Wornell, Donnell and Alvin who preceded him in death, one grandson (Robbie D. Dearman, Jr.), his nieces and nephew, Dierdre Porter, Karen Jones, Juanita Jones, Tyler Jones, Dana Jones, and Torrence Vailes, a host of extended family members and friends. On December 22, 2021, Fellowship and Viewing is scheduled for 10:00 am. The Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am. Both will be held at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Interment private at a later date.
