awrence C. Mawn July 29, 1943-December 31, 2011 Lawrence C. Mawn (Larry) departed this life on New Year’s Eve 2011 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland. Born in New York in 1943 to Charles Francis Mawn and Rose McGuire Mawn, Larry was educated at LaSalle Academy, and received his undergraduate degree at St. John's University in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated Cum Laude from the International School of Law of George Mason University, and was employed in management at Emery Air Freight for 16 years, stationed in New York, Washington, D.C., and Connecticut. In 1980, Larry joined Central Delivery Service, headquartered in Beltsville, MD as Executive Vice President, and purchased the company with his partners in 1991, expanding the business into 25 cities. He retired in February of last year. Larry also distinguished himself in the service of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary for over 27 years, acting twice as Flotilla Commander, and receiving numerous awards and commendations. Larry was a humble man of great principle and intellect, dedicated to his Roman Catholic Faith and his beloved family. He was an avid reader, and followed business, political and economic trends closely. Known and respected for his generosity, he supported many local and international charities. He was fiercely proud of his Irish heritage. Survivors include his cherished wife Mary Ann, who he met in college, their daughter Christina Ravekes (Dr. Wm. Ravekes), son Scott Terence Mawn, grandchildren, triplets: Jack Ravekes, Liam Ravekes and Lauren Ravekes. His sister Regina Vorbeck (James), father-in-law Walter J. Sitchenko, sisters-in-law Janet Berberich and Ann Sitchenko. Nephews: Chris & Alex Berberich and Dan Vorbeck. Nieces: Katrina Sitchenko & Tara Renzi. Friends are invited 6-9pm Friday January 6 to Larry's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Funeral service will be held 1 pm Saturday January 7 at St. Mary's Church 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD 21401. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Church and specified for the needs of the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel where Larry was a faithful member.
