Lawrence Schafer - Obituary

awrence Richard “Larry” Schafer, 62, a 24-year resident of Edgewater and previously of Hyattsville, died June 27 at the Washington Hospital Center. Born on March 7, 1952 in Silver Spring to the late Richard and Kathryn Schafer, Larry graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1970. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Carpenters Local 1590 for over 30 years. Larry enjoyed fishing, boating, going to the “Island” and rebuilding and restoring cars, boats and motorcycles. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog, Moe. Larry was preceded in death by his son, Michael Schafer and sister, Patricia Smith. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dianne Schafer; three children, Matthew Schafer of Edgewater, Jill Page of Riva and Dawn Schafer of Annapolis; one brother, Kenneth Schafer of Hyattsville; and four grandchildren, Elaina Schafer and Brianna, Lauren and Jayden Page. Friends are invited to Larry’s Life Celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until his funeral service begins at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 30 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
