Leigh Toombs Mann - Obituary

eigh T. Mann, 53, of Shady Side, MD joined heaven’s angels on May 29, 2024, with her family by her side. Leigh was born in July 1970 to Robert O. and Ellie Brown Toombs. Leigh graduated from Union 32 High School, East Montpelier, VT, and went on to receive a BA from Temple University and an MEd from George Mason University. She began her career in education in Fairfax County, VA, moved to Anne Arundel County Public School System, and rose to Senior Manager of Statewide Testing for the district. Being a mother to her two sons was the highlight of her life and she loved them fiercely. Her greatest joy was watching them become the fine young men that they are. They will be her living legacy. In the 1990s Leigh and her Dad participated in an offshore sailing race in California. After 8 days out at sea, she was hooked, but it was only in the last few years that she was really able to embrace sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. Wednesday nights and weekends she could be found on the water. Leigh is survived by her parents; sons, Pfc. Henry (Hank) Mann & Benjamin Mann; maternal grandmother, Virginia Hyatt; former husband and father of her children, Zac (Lila) Mann; stepson, Zeke Mann; all of the extended Mann family; 2 aunts; 3 uncles; numerous cousins; and legions of friends and coworkers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Naval Academy Sailing Foundation, P.O.Box 195, Arnold, MD 21037 or South River High School Wrestling, 201 Central Avenue E., Edgewater, MD 21037.
