L

ena Louise Haislip, age 89, died on Wednesday, September 4 at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie. Born on June 24, 1924 in Arvonia, VA to the late Irene Shores and George Alfred Catlett, Louise moved to Riva in 1950 with her family. In 1986 they moved to Gambrills and remained there until January of 2013 when Louise became a resident of Rutherford Manor Assisted Living in Davidsonville. Louise retired after working more than 36 years with the Anne Arundel County Board of Education as payroll supervisor. She enjoyed walking with her neighbors, going out to restaurants, traveling with her family, baking and working in her yard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Walter F. Haislip, Sr., who died in 1993; a sister, Ann Maples and four brothers, Billy, Clyde, Ralph and Lloyd Catlett. She is survived by a son, Walter F. Haislip, Jr. of Davidsonville; a daughter, Carolyn Faye (Michael) Qualey of Crofton; a sister, Eleanor Cole of Edgewater; five grandchildren, Paul (Danielle) Qualey of Atlanta, GA, Jeff (Tereena) Qualey of Odenton, Stephen (Vicki) Qualey of Millersville, Ryan (Melissa) Haislip of Davidsonville and Shelly (Rich) Sugarman of Arlington, VA; 11 great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Brian, Kristin and Madison Qualey all of Atlanta, GA, Krysta Qualey of Odenton, Jonathan and Amberly Qualey of Millersville, Erin and Nate Sugarman of Arlington, VA and Emerson Haislip of Davidsonville, and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to Louise’s Life Celebration from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, September 10 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Graveside service and interment will be at 11 am on Wednesday, September 11 at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD.
