Leon Herbert Wheeler, Jr. - Obituary

eon Herbert Wheeler, Jr. (Junior) was born on March 8, 1957, in Washington, DC to Leon Herbert Wheeler, Sr. and the late Lucille Wheeler. He attended D.C. Public Schools and worked for a sanitation company for several years. Junior retired and became friends with several senior citizens in his neighborhood. He also became a companion for them, and ran errands for them, and earned their trust as a friend. Junior’s genuine, cheerful attitude eventually led to him becoming roommates with a couple of friends. Junior was the only family member who remembered everyone’s birthday, always calling his mother, father and siblings on their special day. He had a unique bond with animals - especially dogs. Junior was also a fan of the Washington Commanders football team. Leon Herbert Wheeler, Jr. departed this life on Thursday, June 5, 2025. He leaves to treasure wonderful memories: his father, Leon Wheeler, Sr. of Washington, DC, his brother, Larry Clay of Washington, DC, his two sisters Marcia Banson of Halethorpe, MD and Brenda Wheeler of Temple Hills, MD, his nephews Demetrius Wheeler (Medgyn) of Lanham, MD and Kevin Wheeler (Zanita) of Lexington Park, MD and many great nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local Humane Society. Relatives and friends are invited to Leon's Life Celebration on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 11 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 12 noon at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
