S L. LeCOMPTE, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017 in Arnold, MD. He was born in Washington, DC, March 5, 1930, Graduated Charlotte Hall Military Academy 1948. After graduation he worked in the printing business and joined the 163rd MP BN., DC National Guard. When the Korean War broke out, the 163rd was one of the first units in the nation called to active duty. In September 1951, he landed at Inchon and went to a place called Chunchon where he was assigned to Co. B, 519th MP Bn. 8th Army. The Objective of 519th was to keep the main supply routes open in the central and northeast sectors, engage guerrilla forces, defend small villages and towns against attack and find and rescue fighter pilots downed in their sector of operations. AWARDS are meritorious Unit Commendation w/Bronze Oak Leaf, Korean Presidential Unit Citation w/1 Bronze Oak Leaf, Korean Service Medal w/3 Bronze Stars. National Defense Service Medal. United Nations medal. Army Good Conduct medal. Korean War Veterans Medal. He returned to the States and was discharged in May 1952. He worked 32 years as an Associate Engineer on Navy Navigation Satellites and the Trident Submarine Missile programs at the Applied Physics Laboratory, Johns Hopkins University, Laurel, Maryland. A LIFE Member of the Korean War Veterans Association. Member of the American Legion and Charter member for the battle of Normandy Museum. Patron South China Yangtze Patrol Asiatic Fleet. Patron USS Bunker Hill Association. Les and his wife Julie have two daughters, Marie LeCompte of Elkridge, Mary Quick and her husband Larry of Annapolis, five grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Leslie's life on Monday, January 30 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where a service will be held on Tuesday, January 31 at 10 am. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
