L

ewis “Butch” Trainum, 69, a 40-year resident of Ponder Cove in Edgewater and previously of Riverdale, died September 21 at his home following a 4-year battle with cancer. Born on June 16, 1944 in Riverdale to the late Aubry and Mary Trainum, Butch graduated from Northwestern High School in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Old Guard which provides memorial honors to current and former military members at Arlington National Cemetery. Butch was a member of Plumbers Local #5, retiring after a 50-year career. Butch was a life member and four-time past commander of American Legion Cummings-Behlke Post 226 in Mayo. In the early 1980s, he coached the Mayo Mustangs football team. He was an avid Washington Nationals, Redskins and NASCAR fan. Butch especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and getting away to his cabin in Keyser, WV where he was a member of the local Moose lodge. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy. He is survived by his fiancé and forever life partner, Diane Francisco of Edgewater; daughter, Terri Trainum-Tracey of San Antonio, TX; brother, Sonny Trainum of Riverdale; three sisters, Shirley Fox and Gerri Page of Hyattsville and Marie Dimuzio of Lanham; and three grandchildren, Brittany, Katlyn and Troy. Friends are invited to Butch’s Life Celebration from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater where the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25. Interment will be held at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Post 226, P.O. Box 66, Mayo, MD 21106.
