Our beloved Linda Rodriguez died on Tuesday, August 3, just before midnight. While her death followed a month-long battle against cancer, Linda died peacefully in her home, surrounded by family and her dearest loved ones.  

Linda was born on June 8, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland, spent her formative years in Severna Park, and adult life in and around Annapolis.  Linda was raised by parents of the Greatest Generation, in a time and place which is largely gone and with a group of loyal friends which keeps these memories alive along with those who were blessed to hear her stories.  Water skiing down the entire length of the Severn River, boating, crabbing, crab feasts, beach bonfires, big cars, and life-long friends are just a few hallmarks of that wonderful time and place.  Linda graduated from Severna Park High School in 1964 and then attended The University of Maryland. 

As Linda aged, she grew to love intensely snow-birding in the Florida Keys along with her Methodist church and mission work, cruising and gunkholing on the Chesapeake Bay and creeks, past membership to the Junior League of Annapolis, knitting and chatting with girlfriends, unabashedly cheering her grandchildren’s success at lacrosse, field hockey, and swimming events, and last but not least, Sunday dinners with her family and grandchildren.  

While it is impossible to capture the essence of a person in just a few words, this feels especially true of Linda whose innate traits made her a wonderful duality to love.  Linda was fearless yet warm, hilarious yet sincere, honest about every situation in life yet kind, and above all, due to her faith, she was wondrously resilient in the face of life’s ups and downs.  Linda could and would talk to anyone, and when in her company you were pulled into her personality and aura.  Linda adored her only child and “miracle” daughter, who gave her three grandchildren whom she fiercely defended in all circumstances.  To meet and really get to know Linda was an astonishing and enduring Gift. 

Linda retired from the Navy’s David Taylor Research Center (DTRC) Annapolis Laboratory in 1999 with 34 years of federal service which she followed by a few years of contractor employment.  Linda served as a technical writer/editor, as well as a Public Affairs Officer whose final duty was to plan and officiate the Navy’s closure of the Annapolis Laboratory.  
 
Linda is survived by her husband of 24 years, Anthony Rodriguez, daughter Jody Brooks (Jeff), her brother Dean Holloway, and her grandchildren Thomas, Lilly, and Madalyn.  Linda is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Madalyn Holloway.
 
Please join us for a celebration honoring Linda's life on Thursday, August 26 at 10 a.m., at the Calvary United Methodist Church sanctuary at 301 Rowe Blvd. in Annapolis.
