Lindsey D. Rucker - Obituary

I

n Loving Memory of Lindsey D. Rucker Lindsey D. Rucker, affectionately known as “Dale” to his family and friends, age 75, was called home and entered eternal rest on Thursday, May 21, 2020. Lindsey was born on September 14, 1944, in Spelter, West Virginia to the late Lila Rucker and Lindsey Rucker, Sr. Lindsey was educated in the West Virginia Public School System and later completed his education in Monroe Michigan Public Schools. As a young adult, Lindsey relocated to Washington D.C., where he met and married his love, Audrey. They were married for 42 years and from that union had two daughters, Teresa and LaTonya. Lindsey also had two older children, Vencent and Crystol from a previous marriage. Together they were blessed with four children. Lindsey was a devoted and dedicated husband and father who took pride in his children's accomplishments no matter how big or small. He never let an opportunity pass without telling them how proud he was of them and how much he loved them. Lindsey began his career with the District of Columbia Department of Public Works (Water Department) in July 1969. As a dedicated employee of the department, Lindsey served in various roles. He started as a laborer and ended his career as a Superintendent in 2001 after 32 years of service. After he retired from the D.C. government, he worked as a contractor doing similar work as his government job until that contract ended with the New Jersey-based company. Once the contract ended, Lindsey decided to go back to work as a Lawn Care Specialist, helping families maintain beautiful lawn care for their home, until his illness in April 2020. In Lindsey's early years, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle to and from work, playing on the softball team at his job, and singing for the gospel group Kings of Harmony. But, the one thing Lindsey loved the most was to fish! He spent many summer days and nights fishing with his fishing buddies on Solomon Island and Kent Narrow in Maryland. He also spent a lot of time fishing in Tappahannock, Virginia. After a long day of fishing he would come home and clean his fish in his garage while listening to his favorite Motown music. He loved sharing his catch with his family and friends. Lindsey was a great dancer too, showing off his hand dancing moves during family gatherings. He loved spending time with his family especially during the holidays. During the Summer holidays he took pleasure grilling for his family. In addition to fishing, Lindsey loved to travel the world with his wife, family, and close friends. Together they enjoyed the beautiful island of Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Aruba, Trinidad & Tobago, St. Thomas, St. Martin, Martinique, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Barbados, as well as, Canada and Las Vegas. Lindsey is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Audrey Rucker; four children: Vencent Rucker (Adrian), Crystol Jones (Brian), Teresa Whigham, and LaTonya Williams (Hallie); 10 grandchildren: Asia Rucker, Tiara Whigham, Dasia Whigham, Jalen Green, Christopher Jones, Issac Rucker, Colby Whigham, Myles Jones, Lauren Williams & Lindsay Williams; 3 great-grandchildren: Samara, Skylar, Michael “Drew”; a loving son-in-law David; a devoted nephew Lawrence Harold and a host of family & friends.
