r. Lonnie Joe Baker departed this life on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Medstar Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, Maryland.
Bro. Baker was born on May 4, 1926 in Washington County, Georgia to the parentage of the late Mrs. Lina Baker Norris and Mr. Abram Bolden.
He was educated in the Washington County public school system. At an early age, he joined Mount Zion A.M.E. Church Davisboro, Georgia, where he served as an Usher, Trustee, Class Leader and many years as a Steward. He was also a Mason, Lodge # (unknown).
Bro. Baker was united in holy matrimony to the late Sis. Naomi Wicker Baker December 4, 1949. This union was blessed with 4 children.
Lonnie worked jobs consisting with pulp wood and logging before going to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) where he retired with 25 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Julia Duggans; brothers Willie A. Bolden, Roosevelt and Fletcher Norris; and wife Naomi W. Baker.
He leaves to cherish his memories four daughters: Mrs. Johelen B. (Jerod) Davis, Mrs. Patti E. (Dale) Evans, Temple Hills, MD; Mrs. Linda J. Baker-Waters, Fort Washington, MD; Ms. Frankie Baker, Oxon Hill, MD; one granddaughter: Aeisha A. Waters and five grandsons: Antonio Davis, Everett Waters, Efrem Baker, Damarr and Jamal Evans; two great granddaughters: Estrella Davis and Marley Naomi Hoysler-Davis; two Godsons: Quintory and Jontavious Braswell; three sisters: Mrs. Carrie Lou (Leroy) Jordan, Ms. LouHazel Blackburn, Ms. Malessie Johnson; two brothers: Mr. Joseph Norris Jr., Mr. Willie Norris; one sister-in-law: Ms. Elnora Poole Blackshear. Devoted nieces: Ms. Betty Bolden, Ms. Linda M. Hooks, Mrs. Mary Elaine (Leroy) Jordan-Drake and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and great friends.
