L

ouis E. Cantler, “Captain Lou” or “Cubby”, 94, of Tracy’s Landing, and previously of Annapolis, died peacefully at home on Monday, June 10, 2024. Born November 15, 1929, in Annapolis to the late Louis and Elizabeth Cantler, Louis was one of 18 children. Louis spent his life working as a commercial waterman on the Chesapeake Bay crabbing, fishing, and oystering, working into his 90’s. Along with having his Fishing Charter Captain’s License, Louis also served in the US Army from 1951-53 as a member of the 5th Regimental Combat Team. Louis received an honorable discharge and was awarded the Purple Heart and Korean Service Medal. He loved being on the water above all else, was a lifelong member of the VFW, enjoyed square dancing, tending to his garden alongside his son, yearly visits to his nephew Toby in Florida, and spending time with family. Louis is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Carol Cantler of Tracy’s Landing; son David Cantler, Sr. also of Tracy’s Landing; grandsons, David Cantler, Jr. (Pamela) of Annapolis and Todd Cantler of Melbourne, FL; granddaughters, Hannah Richardson of Grasonville and Lindsay Kasprzak of Annapolis; great-grandchildren Victoria, Brianna and David Louis of Annapolis, and Tucker, Landon, Jackson and Mackenzie of Grasonville; brothers, William “Jimmy”, George and Eric Cantler all of Annapolis; sisters, Mary Cantler of Los Angeles, CA, Veronica “Ronnie” Parkinson of Stevensville, Marie Black of Harwood and Rae “Sissy” Caldwell of Riva; and many loved nieces and nephews. Louis was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Susan Cantler-Kasprzak, his daughter-in-law, Gloria Cantler, and 10 brothers and sisters. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Louis’ life on Monday, June 17th from 10 am until his funeral service begins at 12 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD internment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Annapolis.
