Lt Charles Ke - Obituary

t. Col. Charles “Charlie” Kenneth Whitfield, Sr., USMC (Ret.), 83, of Annapolis, MD and previously of Davidsonville, MD died on December 18, 2009 at his home. Born October 7, 1926 in Louisville, KY to the late Ruth and H.E. Whitfield, he graduated from the University of Louisville in 1950 with a degree in chemistry and physics. He served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps from 1943-68, where he participated in World War II, the Korean Conflict and was an advisor to the Vietnamese Marines. He was awarded the Bronze Star with a Combat V for meritorious action in Vietnam. After his military service, he was employed as a representative for Dermatological Pharmaceutical Co. from 1968-78. He attended Spanish classes at the Arnold Senior Center for many years. He was the beloved husband of Juanita L. Whitfield, whom he married on February 14, 1947; father of Charles K. Whitfield, Jr. of Tempe, AZ and Lane S. Whitfield of Annapolis, MD; grandfather of Alexander Whitfield Hutt of Winchester, VA and Jessie Collete Whitfield of Tempe, AZ; brother of the late Edgar H. Whitfield and Betty Jean Sheeley. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, February 25 at 12:45pm at Ft. Myer Chapel, Ft. Myer, VA. Interment Arlington National Cemetery.
