ucille Jones Hooper Murphy, 89, passed away on Tuesday, January 20 at her home after a lengthy illness. Born in Lusby, MD on February 16, 1925, Lucy attended school and worked on the farm and later, along with her husband and son, moved to Annapolis where she was a secretary with C & P Telephone Co. for thirty-nine years. After retiring, she operated a home day care for seven years. Lucy loved people, her home, working in the yard and gatherings with family and friends. She is survived by her son, James E. Hooper, Jr. and his wife Deborah; two brothers, Jerry Jones and his wife Ruth Ann and Ernest Jones; two sisters, Rose Rush and Shelby Gibbons and her husband Charlie, she is also survived by many other friends and family members. Friends are invited to Lucy’s Life Celebration from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9pm on Sunday, January 25 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30am on Monday, January 26 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Annapolis. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy., Pasadena, MD 21122.
