ynn Grey Kitzmiller, 78, a 25-year resident of Tracy's Landing, passed away at her home on May 16, 2015. Born on April 13, 1937 in Denver, CO to the late Maurice Hazelwood and Elizabeth Titus Fisher, Lynn graduated from Emma Willard School in Troy, NY and attended Connecticut College for Women. In 1955, she married William Michael Kitzmiller and together they raised three daughters. Lynn first moved to the Washington-Maryland area in 1964. In 1974, she and her husband sold their home in Potomac, MD and, with their three children, moved aboard their 37-foot ketch, the Different Drummer. For the next 11 months, they sailed down the eastern seaboard through the Bahamas and, eventually to Haiti. Upon their return, the family settled in Westchester County, NY and Lynn ran the Art Gallery in the county office building. The family returned to Washington, DC in 1975 when Lynn's husband was appointed to a Congressional staff position. Lynn went to work for several citizens' action groups, including the Institute for Policy Studies and two law firms, Verner, Lipfert and Dewey, Ballentine. She also traveled widely through Thailand, Japan, many Pacific islands Peru, the Caribbean islands, Europe and Egypt. Beginning in 1979 and into the 1980s, Lynn assisted Congressional Delegations on missions to France, Spain, Austria, Romania and Poland. In 1990, the family retired to Tracy's Landing where they had built a house by the Chesapeake Bay, close to where the Different Drummer was berthed. Lynn served on the Board of Captain Salem Avery House, a local museum, and played an active role in a successful citizens' action committee to prevent the Safeway Corporation from building a gigantic box store in Deale, MD, which would have done substantial and permanent damage to irreplaceable wetlands and the Chesapeake Bay. Lynn was also a member of St. James Parish in Lothian and the Mayflower Society. In addition to her husband, William Michael Kitzmiller, Lynn is survived by three daughters, Virginia Grey Kitzmiller, Elizabeth Curtiss Kitzmiller and Katherine Dale West; and one grandson, Christopher Peavy. All services will be private.
