Lynn Marcelle McGrath - Obituary

L

ynn Marcelle McGrath, 79, of Waldorf, Maryland, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026. A devoted wife, mother, and friend to many, Lynn will be remembered for her generous heart, easy laughter, and unwavering love for her family. Born on February 27, 1946, in Washington, D.C., Lynn was the beloved daughter of Louis and Virginia Martin. The only girl among seven brothers, she grew up cherishing the closeness and energy that came with a large family. That foundation of love and loyalty shaped the life she built with her husband, Richard Joseph McGrath, with whom she shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. Lynn dedicated herself to caring for her family and raising their three children: Rich, Anthony, and Shannon. Her children remember a mother who made their childhoods magical—one filled with laughter, creativity, and love that knew no bounds. A homemaker by devotion and a scholar by determination, Lynn earned her Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, a testament to her curiosity and perseverance. A woman of many talents, Lynn played softball with spirit and skill, serving as a formidable catcher with a strong arm. She also had a passion for arts and crafts and perfected the art of cake decorating—making her daughter’s wedding cake herself, a creation as beautiful as it was meaningful. She loved to travel, and her trips to Italy with her family were among her most cherished memories. A devout Catholic, Lynn found joy in her faith and in her early years sang proudly in the church choir, was a Lay Eucharistic Minister (LEM) and taught CCD. A celebration of Lynn’s life will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 630 E St SW, Washington, D.C., on Saturday, January 31. A viewing will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Interment Arlington National Cemetery on Monday, March 16, 2026 at 1:00 pm. Please arrive at the Administration Building no later than 12:15 P.M. Please note you must have transportation as Arlington does not allow uber/lyfts. Anyone 16 years old or older that is planning on attending must have their government issued Real ID with them. Lynn’s warmth, laughter, and love will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
