. Bruce McDonald, 85, Islamorada, FL died on May 31, 2015 in his home, surrounded by his wife, two sons, and grandson. He was born on October 27, 1929 in North Muskegon, MI. He was the son of the late Frank and Olive McDonald. He served four years in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1951 as a corpsman and PO2. Deployed to Korea, he was wounded in combat saving the lives of four fellow marines before being shot himself, receiving two Bronze Stars, Presidential Unit Citation and the Purple Heart. Graduating from George Washington University as a CPA after recovering from his combat injuries, he rose quickly through the ranks at Price-Waterhouse before venturing off to start his own business, a highly successful endeavor that would occupy the next 35 years of his professional life earning him respect and admiration throughout the business community. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a very active and respected member of the Wildercroft Church of Christ in Lanham, MD and later in Islamorada Florida where he and wife spent much of their later years. His wise and compassionate counsel was freely dispensed to all who asked, and every life he touched was the better for it. His guiding principal throughout his life was the value of a good name, service to God, family and others, and the importance of a moral life. The world is a lesser place with his passing, and the legacy of his example sets a high bar for those of us who remain. Bruce is survived by his wife of 63 years Dorothy, about whom he frequently quoted Matthew 13:45-46. "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it." He is also survived by his sister Wilma, brother Francis, sons Mike and Patrick, and grandchildren Ryan and Danielle. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 6 PM at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD, where a funeral service will be held on Monday, June 8 at 11AM. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
