Maddalena DiPompo - Obituary

addalena DiPompo, 87, a 13-year resident of West River, MD and previously of Washington, DC died at her home on Sunday, May 18, 2008 after a brief illness. The daughter of Antonio and Maria Tenaglia, Maddalena was born and educated in Orsogna, Italy. In 1935, she married Joseph DiPompo who died in 1998. She left Italy with her children in 1950 to join her husband in Argentina where he was working. The family returned briefly to Italy before settling in the Washington area in 1952. Originally a lamp and shade designer, Maddalena later worked for Woodward and Lothrop in Washington as a seamstress specializing in furs. She retired from the company in 1987 after 35 years of service. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, MD and Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Washington, DC. She loved her kitchen, cooking, and over-feeding people. She used her sewing skills to fix the wardrobe malfunctions of everyone she knew. But most of all, she loved her family and every opportunity to spend time with them, and she loved to pray the rosary. She was the loving mother of Luke, who died in 2003, and his wife Virginia of St. Leonard, MD, and Alberto and his wife Deborah of West River. She is also survived by one sister Nicoletta D'Angelo of Temple Hills, MD, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to Maddalena's Life Celebration on Thursday, May 22, from 1:00 to 3:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, May 23 at 9:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD. Interment Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD.
