M

anuel E. Mendenilla, 74, of Annapolis, Maryland passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 surrounded by his family. Manuel was born in Manila, Philippines, to the late Alejandro and Florencia Mendenilla. In 1969 he was recruited by the US Navy and moved to the United States. In 1972 he married Alicia Sayson of Pangasinan and together they raised three daughters. After 23 years of numerous deployments, duty stations and achievements, he settled in Annapolis, Maryland and retired honorably as a Senior Chief (EMCS (SW)). He continued to work for the federal government for many years before retiring from the United States Postal Service in 2012. His interests included singing karaoke, telling and re-telling stories, drinking coffee and spending time with his family - especially his grandchildren. Manuel is survived by his daughters Michelle (Steve Wootton), Melanie (Thomas Totten, Jr.) and Melissa; his siblings Pablo, Ramon, Maria Celina and Levi Florencio; his grandchildren Samantha, Theresa, Andrea, Matthew and Julia, and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Manuel’s life celebration on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, June 7th at 11 am at St. Mary’s Church of Piscataway, 13401 Piscataway Road, Clinton, MD 20735. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
