Marcia T. Hawthorne - Obituary

M

arcia Terrell Hawthorne passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on September 11, 2016. She was a longtime resident of Annapolis, residing in the community of Heritage Harbour, and most recently, Baywoods of Annapolis. Prior to retirement, she lived in Oxon Hill, Maryland. She was born October 6, 1935, the oldest daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Snyder, of Albany, New York. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, and friend —a shining light to all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Russ Hawthorne, her daughter, Lizabeth Soares, two grandsons, Karl David Nan, Joshua Soares, and her sister Joanne Whalen. She will join her parents, brother and other daughters in heaven, Jenny Hawthorne and Terry Hawthorne-Nan. She held a Bachelors degree from the University of Maryland in Human relations, and worked at Prince Georges community college in the human relations department as a research assistant. To know her was to love her, she was a ray of sunshine and a burst of springtime. She always had a positive way of looking at the world, regardless of the circumstance. Her biggest love was music- she played piano, loved Chopin, and sang in the chorus at Heritage Harbour as well as in the Alexandria Singers, and twice performed in the Kennedy Center at Christmastime. She was also a gifted writer, the daughter of a poet, and created beautiful sculptures of her grandchildren. She truly loved life and people, and her favorite thing to say was “isn’t that grand." A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
