M

arcianna (Marcy) Fonseca Pena, age 89, a resident of Temple Hills, MD for 41 years and previously of Lanham, MD, passed away at Angel’s Heart Nursing Home in Waldorf, MD due to complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. She had been sick with this disease for the past 11 years. Marcy was born June 5th, 1931, in North Falmouth (Cape Cod), Massachusetts, to the late Manuel and Mary Grace Fonseca Oliviera. She was fortunate to have been raised by her loving Stepfather Theophilus Olivera. She was also preceded in death by her brother Theodore Fonseca. Marcy was raised and lived in Cape Cod, Massachusetts the majority of her life. She graduated in 1949 from Lawrence High School, North Falmouth High School where she excelled in academics, basketball, softball, and was associated with numerous clubs. She married the love of her life, Roland Prescott Pena in 1950. She and Roland resided in New Bedford, Massachusetts. From this union, they had two children, Robert Alan Pena, and Deborah Ann (Pena) Reid. Marcy worked in factories during the early years of her marriage. In the early 1950, Marcy and Roland moved to Washington, D.C. for better career opportunities. This is where Marcy became employed as an EEO Specialist with the Department of Navy (Navy Annex) in Alexandria,VA. She retired after 34 years of service. During her tenure with the Department of Navy, she received numerous awards and accolades. She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Temple Hills, MD, the Women’s Red Hat Club, and the Cape Verdean Association (DC Metropolitan area.) She spent the majority of her retirement time being creative and vending her craft. She loved creating baskets, flowers, painting figurines, which she sold at flea markets, and the local military bases. She enjoyed traveling, playing pinochle with her friends. Most of all, she adored spending time with her family. If she had any free time after that, she loved crossword puzzles, sewing and adding to her collection of angels and owls. Marcy was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Prescott Pena; her parents and stepfather, Manuel and Mary Grace Fonseca Olivera and Theophilius Olivera; her brother, Theodore Fonseca. Marcy leaves to cherish her memories her son, Robert Alan Pena (Daughter-In-Law Vivian Pena) of Waldorf, MD, Deborah Pena Reid of Fort Washington, MD. Her grandchildren, Dorian Alan Pena (Wife Gorgette Pena) of Waldorf, MD, Danielle Chapman (Husband Damian Chapman) of Hughesville, MD, Darcelle Caballero (Husband Michael Caballero) of Stuttgart, Germany, Robert Pressey of White Plains, MD, Deanna Reid of Greenbelt, MD, Victoria Reid of Fort Washington, MD, Jade D. (Pena) Watkins (Husband Keith Watkins) of Waldorf, MD, and 14-great grandchildren. As well as a host of relatives and friends who adore her. Relatives and friends are invited to Mrs. Pena's Life Celebration on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:30 a.m. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Interment Quantico National Cemetery will be held at 2 p.m. that same day.
