Margaret "Maggie" Annette Neitzke - Obituary

M

argaret “Maggie” Neitzke, 90, of Edgewater, Maryland, born on February 7, 1933 in St. Petersburg, Florida to the late Gordon Joseph Dow DeSaulniers and Catherine Laura Jones DeSaulniers, passed away on December 2, 2023. Maggie met the love of her life, Leonard “Nick” Neitzke, through a chance meeting when Maggie was a bank teller. Nick fell in love instantly and pursued her from that point on. They were married in Florida and together had three wonderful children: Linda, Michael, and Teresa. Their love story continued for 66 years. Nick was career US Air Force, which took them to many assignments: Florida, New York, Bermuda, Montana, California, Maryland, and all over the world. Maggie was the quintessential military wife, keeping the household in order, raising children, and serving the community while Nick answered the call of duty for our country. Maggie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She enjoyed traveling and volunteering at the Red Cross, USO, and Andrews Air Force Base Airman’s Attic/Thrift Shop. Maggie and Nick were both dedicated members of Divine Peace Lutheran Church in Upper Marlboro, MD since 1972. In addition to her parents, Maggie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nick. She is survived by her children, Linda, Michael (Marsha), and Teresa (Michael); grandchildren, Christopher (Denise), Matthew (Amber), and Marissa (Joseph); great-grandchildren, Cohen, Harper, Farrah, Jaxon, Delaney, and Emersyn; and sister, Marie. Maggie will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Maggie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association (online here).
