Margaret Casey - Obituary

argaret Joan Casey, 72, a 38-year resident of Edgewater and previously of Riverdale, died peacefully in her sleep on February 5. She was known to friends and family as both “Margie” and “Casey”. Born on July 6, 1941 in Johnstown, PA to the late Francis and Mary Casey, Margie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Programming from the University of Maryland. She retired from the NSA where she worked as a computer programmer. She also worked at Lou’s Woodland in Edgewater for many years. Margie enjoyed genealogy and researching her family tree. She also enjoyed making videos of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater. Margie was preceded in death by her long-time companion, William Bennett; former spouse, Kenneth Penrod; two brothers, George and Joseph Casey and her sister, Mary Frances Casey. She is survived by two sons, Patrick (Susan) Penrod of East Haven, CT and Christopher (Shelly) Penrod of Frederick; three daughters, R. Dawn Penrod (Michael Risher) of Riva, Stacy Penrod of Edgewater and Kennette (David) Martin of Pasadena; two sisters, Barbara Canavan of Woodbridge, VA and Ann McCarthy of Gaithersburg; one sister-in-law, Sandi Casey of Portage, PA; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to Margie’s Life Celebration from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Catholic prayer service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 9 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A second visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 14 at the Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, 621 Maple Street, South Fork, PA 15956. A Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be scheduled at a later date.
