argaret Faye Vandevander, 86, a resident of Gambrills and previously of Edgewater and Riverdale, MD, passed away surrounded by her family on June 29, 2016 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born on April 5, 1930 in Port Republic, VA to the late William Dewitt and Lorena May Johnson, Margaret married the late Jewel A. Vandevander in 1953 and devoted herself to making a comfortable home for her family. Once her children were in school, Margaret went to work in 1972 for the Prince George’s County Public School system. Working at Wildecroft and Woodridge Elementary schools she enjoyed a 20-year career until she retired in 1992 as Cafeteria Manager. Margaret also enjoyed gardening, puzzles and spending time with her family. In addition to her husband and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by one brother, William D. Johnson, Jr. and two sisters, Doris Miller and Phyllis Wimer. She is survived by three sons, Jerry Johnson of Waynesboro, VA, Larry (Terry) Vandevander of Ellicott City, MD and John (Ruby) Vandevander of Riverdale, MD; three daughters, Rosemarie (Bob) Carter of College Park, MD, Margaret (David) Crissinger of Bladensburg, MD and Mary (Shannon) Young of Shady Side, MD; three sisters, Carolyn Riley of Fishersville, VA, Maxine Powers of Richmond, VA and Ruby Scott of Lewisville, NC; four grandsons, Josh Johnson, Wayne Muchmore and Shane and Darren Young; five granddaughters, Shelley Wilhelm, Kimberly and Zaynah Vandevander, Stacy Carter, Christina Crissinger and Erin Young and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:45p.m. on July 22 in the chapel at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham. Immediately following the service a celebration in Margaret’s memory will be held at the Crofton Country Club in Crofton until 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J.
