arian E. Evans, 94, most recently of Annapolis, passed away on February 25, 2019. Marian was born on December 31, 1924, the youngest of four children to the late Frank and Helen Leeland. Her work life was a mix of domestic engineer (stay-at-home Mom ) and various Administrative Assistant positions. Her favorite was serving as the AA to the Head of the University of Maryland’s College of Horticulture. She was a life-long pianist and regaled her family by playing her favorite songs from the 40’s and 50’s (when they knew how to write music she’d say) as well as show tunes and singing at the top of her voice. Did we mention she was a bit of a ham? Always preferring outside to in, Marian was a lover of nature and critters great and small, from butterflies and birds to horses to the more domesticated four footed friends, dogs and cats. She was an avid walker and a fixture on the walking trails around Greenbelt Lake well into her 80s. Marian was also an avid reader who loved a good mystery – and prided herself on figuring out “who done it”. In her younger days, she became involved in creating Christmas ornaments out of hollowed out eggs and truly felt she gave Fabrege a run for their money. When arthritis and dexterity became more of an issue, she turned to decoupage and scrap booking. A life-long fashion plate, she prided herself on well-coordinated “jazzy” ensembles and had weekly hair appointments and mani-pedi’s til the end. Marian was a bit of a social butterfly and enjoyed the gift of many life-long friendships. Sadly, she outlived them all. Time with friends and family were the times that brought her joy. In addition to her parents and siblings, Marian was preceded in death by her handsome husband, Thomas Francis Evans. She is survived by her three wonderful daughters – Cathy (Charlie) Bird, Lori (David) Cruz and Debbie Evans; four fabulous grandchildren – Allison and Ian Holstrom, Shelby (Jeremy) Wieland and Jaime Cruz and her special late-in-life four footed child, Baby Girl. The family is planning a Celebration of Marian’s Life the weekend of May 18-19, 2019.
