M

arie Drouin Klosek Shryock, 86, a 4-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Lusby, MD, died on Monday, March 8, at her home following a lengthy illness. Born on May 13, 1923 in Montreal, Canada, she was educated in Montreal and Quebec before moving to the United States. A homemaker who especially loved gardening and cooking, she was also a goodwill ambassador and enjoyed her memberships at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Landover Hills, MD; St. Mathias Catholic Church in Lanham, MD and, most recently, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater. Marie was the wife of the late Alexander Klosek who died in 1969, the late Charles Poole who died in 1977 and the late Charles H. Shryock, Jr. who died in December 2009. She is survived by one son, Alexander M. Klosek of Kansas City, MO; one daughter, Diane M. Foran of Edgewater; four brothers: Gerald, Lucien, Rene and Raoul Drouin and two sisters: Pierette Zegray and Solanges Drouin, all of Montreal Canada. She is also survived by 10 stepchildren: Susan Ude of Lusby, MD, Mary Brady of Annapolis, MD, Frances Hesson of Pasadena, MD, Catherine Fanning of Locust Grove, VA, Martina Moffett of Lanham, MD, Clare Fabula of Mechanicsville, MD, Bernadette Barber of Nuttsville, VA, Charles Shryock, III of Lanham, MD, Douglas Shryock of Churchton, MD and Michael Shryock of Hague, VA and 46 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Peter R. Klosek; stepmother of the late Steven and John Shryock; and sister of the late Jean and Yvette Drouin. Friends are invited to Marie's Life Celebration on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater. Interment will be at Baltimore National Cemetery on Tuesday, March 16 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058.
