leone Marie Smith-Dade Marie Smith-Dade, 90, died at her home in Churchton, MD on March 13, 2012 surrounded by family. Marie attended McKinley Technical High School in Washington, DC. She was a homemaker for most of her life and loved serving her family. After staying home to raise her children, Marie taught third grade at St. Mathias in Lanham and later at St. Pius in Bowie. She retired while working for Lanman Lithoplate in Washington, DC. Marie was very musical, singing at weddings in her younger days, and was also a member of the Sweet Adelines. While she was home caring for her children, she enjoyed sewing and arranging silk flowers. She was very active at St. Mary’s in Landover Hills, and later was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows in West River. Preceding her in death were her husbands, Glenn R. Smith and William L. Dade and two daughters, Carol Ann Smith and Anne Marie Cronin. She is survived by four children, Glenda Schaffner and her husband Dave of Butler, PA, Diane Engstrom and her husband Phil of Ocean City, Lisa Bates and her husband Rob of Churchton, and Thomas Smith and his wife Fran of Plant City, FL; son-in-law Scott Cronin of Churchton; sister of Frances Gray of Queens Chapel, MD, Nancy Firestein of Annapolis, MD and the late Gertrude Catucci. Also survived by 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to Marie’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 6 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows, 101 Owensville Road West River, MD 20779 on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 11:00AM. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1041 MD Route 3 North, Bldg A, Gambrills, MD 21054, in the name of her daughter, Anne Cronin.
