Marie P. Yearwood - Obituary

M

arie Piovano Yearwood We sadly announce the passing of Marie P. Yearwood (85) on February 3, 2026 at Ginger Cove in Annapolis, Maryland. Marie was born on May 20, 1940, to Louise and Albert Piovano in Brooklyn, New York. She attended Fontbonne Hall Academy in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and met her husband Don, when they were teenagers at the soda shop. Marie attended Fordham University, where she studied mathematics. She worked for General Electric in NYC, initially in labor relations before becoming Executive Secretary to the Vice President of Advanced Technology Services. After her twin boys arrived, she devoted her energy and her heart to her growing family while supporting Don’s international shipping career, which took them to Japan with three young children and another on the way. Marie traveled throughout the world also living in Switzerland and spending many days in England, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Bermuda, and the islands of the Caribbean. She treasured her family, who all came together for Sunday tablecloth dinners and summer afternoons in the pool and grilling out on the back porch. She volunteered at her childrens’ various schools, also playing the piano for concerts. She devoted time as an English as a Second Language (ESL) tutor. While Marie faced many medical challenges, ranging from rheumatoid arthritis in her early thirties through cancer and Alzheimer's, they never took away her positive outlook and resilience. Marie was an accomplished cook and also a creator – from expertly crafted birthday piñatas to hand-embroidered Christmas ornaments for all each year. She enjoyed boating with the family and was a voracious reader. Marie is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald; four close children: Adam (Jody), Christopher (Valarie), Jennifer Ginn, and Katherine Peterson (Larry); ten grandchildren: Catherine (DeLisa), Caroline (Waterhouse), Courtney, Jack, Grace, Collin and Christian Ginn, Jonathan, Brittney, and Luke Peterson and four great grandchildren: Frances Marie and Jane DeLisa, Tage and Theodora Peterson; and one sister Alberta Sullivan. She was recently preceded in death by her older sister, Audrey Bruno. The family thanks the staff at Ginger Cove, Hospice of the Chesapeake, and Baxter Healthcare for their caring assistance in recent years. Marie was devoted to her faith and raised her children in the Catholic Church. Marie's funeral service will be held on Friday, March 20 at 10:30 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. Following the service, family and friends are invited to continue celebrating Marie's life at a luncheon, to be held nearby.
