M

arietta Tana Doran, 94, a 26-year resident of the Annapolis area and previously of Hyattsville, MD, passed away on May 18, 2023, at her residence in Davidsonville, MD. Born on February 23, 1929 in Washington, D.C. to the late Francesco Tana and Gemma Emelia Tana, Marietta attended Saint Martin of Tours Elementary School and Immaculate Conception High School in Washington, D.C. She graduated from the Providence Hospital Nursing School in 1949 and spent several years in nursing at Providence Hospital before beginning many years of service with the American Red Cross in Hyattsville,. In the early 1970s, Marietta began her 20+ year career as a clinical nurse at the University of Maryland Health Center, College Park campus. After moving to Annapolis in 1996, Marietta retired from the University and eventually began many years of volunteer service in the cardiac rehabilitation department at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Marietta was married to her husband Tom for 64 years until his death in 2017. Together, they were members of the Maryland Terrapin Club in College Park, where they spent over 40 years tailgating and attending football games with their close friends and family. Marietta’s passions around her home were sewing, baking, and gardening. Regardless of her residence, she always maintained exquisite flower gardens providing great beauty to her neighborhood. Marietta was predeceased by her four sisters and three brothers and her loving husband, Thomas Raymond Doran. She is survived by two sons, Frank J. (Jule) Doran of Sarasota, FL and Thomas L. (Rosemary) Doran of Davidsonville,; two daughters, Mary Doran (Mark) Brown of Annapolis and Jean Doran (Steve) Levine of Elkridge, MD; eleven grandsons, Matt, Cody, Tommy, Kevin, Eric, Alex, Phillip, Andy, Brian, Jeff and Andrew; five granddaughters, Jule, Katie, Laura, Emily Jean and Mary Catherine; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Marietta’s life with her family from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD. Interment will be scheduled for a later date at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. Online condolences and tributes may be offered using the Memories tab on the left side of this page.
