Marion I. Walzel, 80, currently of Blacksburg, VA, formerly of Accokeek, MD, passed away on January 12, 2022. Marion was born on February 1, 1941 to Stephen and Marion McKimmie in Washington D.C. . After graduating in 1959 from Gwynn Park High School, she took her first job as a secretary for the Department of Agriculture in Washington D.C. and married her first love Richard A. Walzel, in June of 1960. She was widowed far too soon in 1971. Mom never remarried and is now happily reunited with Dick and her twin sons that passed away shortly after birth in 1968. After her husband's death she took a job as the church secretary at her home parish church, St. Mary's of Piscataway, MD. She worked there for many years while her daughter, Kim, attended St. Mary's Elementary School, which was the desire of Dick and Marion to give their daughter a Catholic education. As well as being close to her only child, she made many lifelong friends here. After St. Mary's she took a position at Andrews AFB as an administrative assistant. She enjoyed her time in this position and made many lasting friends here, as well. She took a position as a legal assistant in the Judges office of the EPA in Washington D.C. and this is where she finished her career and retired. She was extremely conscientious and well respected by her colleagues. Marion loved the Lord and her family first and foremost. She enjoyed gardening, reading, a good cup of tea, a nice glass of wine, eating out, Jeopardy and most things British. Although she had a very strong patriotism for the U.S.A. Her true joy came from her 3 grandsons 'Nonnie', 'Drew Drew' and 'Zachy'. Even in her last hours she asked "How are my boys?" Her love and generosity, where they were concerned, was endless, as was their love for her. Preceding her in death are her parents Marion and Steve "Mac" McKimmie, her husband Richard and twin baby boys. Left to treasure her memory are her daughter Kimberly "Kimmie" A. Moyer and her husband J. Michael "Mike" Moyer. Her 3 grandsons Nathaniel Moyer and his wife Delena Bell Moyer, Andrew Moyer and Zachary Moyer. Sister Patricia "Pat" Maddy (Scottie), brother Rev. Mr. Stephen McKimmie. Beloved niece Lisa (Vince) Lavery. Nephew John Matthew (Sarah) DeGrasse, nephew Collin Lavery and nephew Hunter DeGrasse. Lifelong friend, confidante and fellow tea drinker Catherine (Walter) Rourke. Special thanks to Kate Bixby for praying with and assisting Mom in the last few months and Tracy at Noble for loving and caring for her at the end. No words can express the void in our lives that is left now that Marion has passed away. I love you Mom, hug Daddy for me." Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 10:00 am in St. Mary's Catholic Church of Piscataway Chapel or Old Church. Maryland
