Marjorie McCormick - Obituary

arjorie Ellen (Fels) McCormick, 80, of Oxon Hill, Md., passed away Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015. Marge was born in Washington, D.C., on July 15, 1934, to Albert Alexander and Mary Alice Fels. Marge met her husband, Perry, in ninth grade at Kramer Junior High School. After graduating from Anacostia High School in 1953, she married her high school sweetheart on July 3, 1954. They welcomed four children—Cheryl, Mark, Mary and the late George McCormick. They were happily married for 43 years, before Perry passed away in 1998. She still lived in the Bock Terrace home they bought early in their marriage. She was a devoted and loving grandmother and great-grandmother to Kate, Jason and Wyatt Weller; Elizabeth and Graham Andrews; Marisa and Matthew McCormick; and Perry, Kyle and Aaron McCormick. Marge worked for many years as a health care technician in the Prince George’s County Public Schools, retiring in 2001. She was the current president of the ACE-AFSCME Local 2250 Retirees Association. Marge loved volunteering her time in the Oxon Hill community. She was a longtime active member of Oxon Hill United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the yarn ministry and president of United Methodist Women. She had been a Girl Scout leader, PTA president and member of Job’s Daughters International and was active in the Oxon Hill Boys and Girls Club with Perry. In her spare time, Marge loved trips to the beach with her family and friends, as well as cheering on her beloved Washington Redskins. After Perry’s retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling the country. A gathering of family and friends will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, at George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at Oxon Hill United Methodist Church, 6400 Livingston Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Interment to follow at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery.
