Mark Stanley Meredith - Obituary

t is with great sadness that we share with family, friends, and our community the passing of Mark Stanley Meredith, 68, of Edgewater, Maryland, on September 15, 2026. Surrounded by his loving family, Mark passed peacefully at home. Mark grew up in California before his family eventually made their way east to Alabama, where his lifelong passions for running, learning, and exploration began to take shape. It was there that he met his future wife, Martha, and began a life defined by service, curiosity, adventure, and devotion to those he loved. Mark graduated from the United States Naval Academy with the Class of 1979. He and Martha married and built a family together while Mark embarked on a distinguished 25-year career in the United States Navy, ultimately retiring at the rank of Captain. Following his military career, he continued his service as a civilian contractor before turning his full attention to one of his great lifelong passions: aviation. Mark became a well-known and highly respected member of the aviation community as a pilot, instructor, and pilot examiner. Mark pursued his passion project of restoring his 1951 de Havilland Chipmunk, reimagining it as a 1930s racer, and entertaining his fans flying daring airshows. He loved not simply flying airplanes, but understanding how they worked, building them, improving them, and sharing what he knew with others. Those who knew Mark knew that his interests could rarely be contained to just one subject. He was, in the truest sense, a Renaissance man: endlessly inquisitive, remarkably capable, and unafraid to take on almost any endeavor that captured his attention. Whether he was flying an aircraft, building something with his hands, learning a new skill, serving his country, or helping someone else learn, Mark approached life with intelligence, determination, and enthusiasm. Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Martha; his daughter Annie Meredith (Micheal Rivadeneyra); his son, Jim Meredith (Olivia Nielsen); his granddaughters, Dahlia and Alyla; his sister, Victoria Lord (David Tennes), and his brother, Christopher Meredith (Christy). More important to Mark than any achievement, however, was the way he lived and the people he loved. He was kind to others, generous with his knowledge and his time, and deeply devoted to his family, his church, his community, and his country. Mark loved deeply, remained curious, and lived fully until the end. His life leaves an example for his children, grandchildren, and generations to come: to keep learning, keep exploring, serve something greater than yourself, love your family fiercely, and never be afraid to pursue the things that make life worth living. His family will carry that legacy forward. Funeral services for Mark will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Mayo United Methodist Church (1005 Old Turkey Point Road, Edgewater, MD 21037) at 11am, followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall.
