M

arlene Carpenter, 78, a resident of Anne Arundel County for over 40 years, died of natural causes at her home on June 10, 2013. Born December 7, 1934 in Cologne, Germany to the late Charles and Anne Selner, she received a Bachelor degree from Hunter College in New York, a Masters Degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and her doctorate degree from the University of Delaware. Marlene was a professor and Chair of Philosophy at Prince George's Community College from 1967 until her retirement in 2003. Marlene enjoyed writing, and authored two books, “The Link Between Language and Consciousness: A Practical Philosophy” and “The Goddess: The Difference between the Feminine Principle and the Feminine Person.” She was a member of Unity Center of Light Church in Bowie, a certified Reike Therapist, and enjoyed going to the movies. She is survived by her sister Rita and her husband Patrick Gorman of Charleston, South Carolina, her nieces; Victoria Gorman Karr and Christa Ray, and nephews; Michael Gorman, Patrick Gorman, III and Ryan Gorman. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013 a 6pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marlene’s memory to Unity Center of Light, 3510 Moylan Drive, Bowie, MD 20715. (www.unitycenteroflight.org)
