artha Goudounis of Annapolis returned peacefully to the Lord on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born on May 5, 1926 in Megalo Sirini, Grevena, Greece, Martha married John Goudounis in November of 1946, and together they immigrated to the United States on February 2, 1973. Martha was passionate about her family, was a loving housewife and mother, and made the best pitas in the world. One of her talents, besides making pitas, was that she made up songs about family and sang them. Martha was also a member of Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis, MD.
Martha is survived by her beloved husband, John Goudounis; her beloved sons, Theodore (Angela) Goudounis and Vasilis (Joan) Goudounis, both of Annapolis; two sisters, Kleo Baldoumas of Lowell, MA and Kasiani Lilos of Greece; one brother, George Lilos of West Palm Beach, FL; beloved grandmother of Joanne Goudounis Sfakyianudis, Effie Goudounis Rentch, Krystina Goudounis Petropoulos and John Goudounis, all of Annapolis. She is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren: Theodore, Leonidas, Luke, and Jack. Our beloved Martha will be missed by all. May her memory be eternal.
Friends are invited to Martha's Life Celebration on Friday, October 26 from 6 to 8pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 27 at 9am at Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD. Interment St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Cemetery.
