Martha Townshend- Smith - Obituary

artha Mae Townshend Smith, 91, a lifelong resident of Davidsonville, MD, died on Friday February 12, 2010, at South River Health & Rehab. Center in Edgewater of natural causes.                       Mae was born on August 12, 1918 to the late Earl G. and Mertyl W. Townshend on the farm where she lived her whole life. She worked on the family farm, which dates back to the 1700's, riding horses, farming tobacco and raising her five children. She was a member of All Hallows Episcopal Church in Davidsonville. Mae enjoyed her garden, horses, travelling and spending time with her family and going to the movies. Martha was the beloved wife of the late Leonard P. Smith, whom she married in 1941, and who died in December of 1991. She is survived by her children, Bonnie J. Darcey of Upper Marlboro, MD, Linda M. Hodge of Davidsonville, MD, Earl P. Smith of Pylesville, MD, Emitt H. Smith of Davidsonville, MD and Daniel J. Smith of Merritt Island, Florida, her 8 grandchildren and her 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Friends are invited to Mae's Life Celebration on Tuesday February 16th at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, Maryland. A greeting period will be held at 11am followed by a funeral service at noon in the chapel. Inurnment All Hallows Episcopal Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to All Hallows Episcopal Church.
