artin V. Lynch, “Juniorâ€, 88, a 55-year resident of the Mayo/Edgewater area and previously of Washington, DC, died on April 13, 2010 at the Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House in Harwood, MD. Born July 7, 1921 in Washington, DC to the late Carrie Hite and Martin Van Lynch, Sr., he began his career as a bus driver for the D.C. Transit Administration where his father-in-law was the last street car operator in Washington, DC. Martin later worked for Green Spring Dairy, where he was recognized for being a top salesman, and for Rogers Chevrolet and Genderson Chevrolet where he received many awards as a car salesman. Toward the end of his career, Martin worked for the Anne Arundel County Board of Education as a driver for handicapped children. He enjoyed woodworking, a skill he learned from his father, and for many years made children's furniture which he sold at local craft fairs. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Deale.
Martin was predeceased by his first wife of 58 years, Margaret Johnson Lynch, and a son, Edward M. Lynch. He is survived by his current wife of 13 years, Kathleen I. Lynch of Edgewater, MD; four children: Robert V. Lynch of Fairfax, VA, Julia M. Roe of Chincoteague, VA, William A. Lynch of Tennessee and Sally J. Sullivan of Mobile, AL. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to Martin's Life Celebration on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD where services will be held on Friday, April 16 at 11 a.m. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
