artin Herman Proctor Born March 10, 1949 to the late Elizabeth Helen Proctor and Thomas Brad Proctor, Martin was born and raised on Bowieville Farm on Church Rd Bowie MD. Martin learned at an early age the importance of family. He learned to play baseball, basketball and what it meant to work hard. He attended Oak Grove Elementary School and was a graduate of Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro MD. Martin joined the US Air Force upon graduation from high school. While Stationed in Arizona, he met and married Sarah Chase. They had three children born of this union: Frederick “Alvin” Proctor, Cheryl Denise “DeeDee” Proctor, and Stacy Rivera. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Martin began his career at the U.S Postal Service. He worked his way up through the ranks from mail clerk, to letter carrier and then upper management. He took an early retirement from the Post Office to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning his own Landscaping business. He later married Deborah Ramsey Canino, and became the father of Serena Canino and had a son from this union Francis Xavier Proctor. Later he began working at Baltimore/Washington International Airport as a security officer and rapidly rose to the rank of Supervisor and Trainer for airport screeners. After 9/11, TSA (Transportation Safety Authority) under Homeland Security assigned Martin as liaison where he worked at the Pentagon for the “Wounded Warrior Project”, facilitating and coordinating the return of wounded soldiers. Being a Vietnam Veteran he considered this assignment a great honor. In recent years he worked for the Washington Post Newspaper delivering papers to local businesses and residents. And enjoyed working for the Maryland State Department of Agriculture tracking the Emerald Ash Bore. Martin was an avid fan of sports. He played and then later umpired Sandlot Baseball. He coached several young players that moved into the minor and major leagues. His favorite baseball team was the Washington Nationals. He also was a loyal Redskins Football fan. He was in his glory when surrounded by his children and family. Martin is survived by his wife Debbie their son Francis and step daughter Serena: his son Alvin and wife Marcella, and their children Raymona, Dalvin, Brittanny, and Kalvin and great granddaughter Amanii; his daughters Cheryl “DeeDee”, and Stacey Renee and her husband Moises, and their children Khalil, Tatyana and Ivan; his siblings; Rose “Toots” Queen, Margaret and her husband Al Rich, Mary “Lucy” Banks, Thomas “Jack” and his wife Claudette, Frederick Carter and his wife Shirley, as well as Uncle William “Bunny” Harley and his wife, Aunt Genevieve, and Teresa “Tea” Proctor and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family will recieve friends on Friday, January 11, from 10am until a Massof Christian Burial begins at 12pm at Holy Family Catholic Church, 12010 Woodmore Road Mitchellville, MD 20721. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham.
