artin D. “Marty” Menton, Jr., 89, an 18 year resident of Annapolis and previously of New Carrollton, passed away on January 3, 2023 at Johns Hopkins Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Queens, NY on April 18, 1933 to Martin D. and Anne Menton, he graduated from New York University with honors and then earned his Masters Degree from George Washington University. He served his country in the U.S Navy as an air traffic controller from 1952 until being honorably discharged in 1955. He started with NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center in 1966 before retiring in 1994 as a Deputy Project Manager. He was active in coaching his children in youth sports and was an avid basketball player and golfer. Marty is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ellen A. Menton; his children, Marty Menton, III of Reno, NV, Elizabeth Brown of Lewes, DE, Maureen Bossler of Hagerstown, MD, Christopher J. Menton, Sr. of Blythewood, SC and Kathleen Menton of Annapolis; his grandchildren, Ellen Valdez, Christopher Menton, Jr. and Martin Menton, IV ; two great grandchildren; and his brother, Robert Menton of Greenville, SC. Family and friends are invited to Marty’s life celebration on Wednesday, January 18 from 5-7 PM at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, January 19 at 9 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, with interment to follow in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation (www.pcf.org).
