Mary Rita Arrighi - Obituary

M

ary Rita Arrighi of Edgewater, Maryland, passed away on January 8, 2026, at the young age of 79. She was born in Cambridge, MA, to the late William and Rita Murray. Growing up, Mary cherished the outdoors and developed a lifelong love of the ocean at Nantasket Beach. Her love of music grew with the likes of Ricky Nelson and Elvis Presley. Being the eldest of her three siblings, she provided love and care as she taught Karen to jump rope, babysat, and nurtured Bill and Theresa even as they got into mischief. Mary paved the way for her siblings and inspired them to embrace every opportunity with enthusiasm. Mary was a graduate of the Chandler School for Women in Boston, MA. Mary worked for the Montgomery County Public Schools and then later became a Real Estate Agent. Mary met her husband, Albert Arrighi, 50 years ago on Valentine’s Day at a ski resort in Massachusetts. They married, and Mary moved to New Jersey to start their lives together. Mary was faithful to her faith, family, and fiercely loved her grandchildren. After retirement, she was a member of the Lord Baltimore Lionesses in Ocean View, Delaware, and a mentor to elementary school-age children, working with them after school. Mary loved to travel with her husband and close friends. Yearly, she enjoyed family time on Cape Cod. She found her home away from home in Aruba and created many memories for her family. As a mom, she loved to make chocolate chip cookies, fudge brownies, and cakes for her family. She continued this tradition every time she saw her grandchildren. During her later years in life, she is remembered by her loved ones as enjoying her favorite oldies tunes and dancing to the beat of the music. Mary’s love for her family was steadfast and unwavering, teaching all of us the importance of family. Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years Albert Arrighi of Edgewater, Maryland, daughters Michelle (Steve) Johnson of Pennsylvania, and Jeanette (Patrick) Brown of Maryland, sisters Karen (Andrew) Burke of Brockton, MA and Theresa (Donald) Hagerty of Canton, MA, brother William (Jill) Murray of Sandwich, MA and her four grandchildren Madilyn, Jack, Christian, and Logan. Mary also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mary's life on Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 10:30 am until 11:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered following the visitation at 11 am. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s honor to Alzheimers.org, and we encourage you to make cookies for your loved ones.
