ary Anderson Barge, “Nana”, age 89, a sixty-six year resident of Edgewater, MD died on Wednesday, December 26 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD due to natural causes. Born on March 8, 1923 in Rouses Point, NY, to the late Harold and Ethel Ashline, Mary graduated from high school and attended the Katherine Gibbs Finishing School in Boston. She worked in the secretarial field for Academic Underwriters of America in Annapolis and was the matriarch of a very loving, close knit family. Mary was a member of the Arundelair Chapter of the Sweet Adelines, the South County Senior Center and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater. She enjoyed reading, singing, word puzzles and recording her life’s journeys in diaries for seventy nine years. Mary was preceded in death in 1986 by her husband, John Barge who she married in 1942 and two sisters and two brothers. She is survived by a daughter, Jerrie Harrell of Edgewater, MD; three sons, Kenny Barge of Dunkirk, MD and Richard and Steve Barge of Edgewater, MD; a sister Edna Ashline of Annapolis, MD, five granddaughters, seven grandsons and twelve great grandchildren. Friends are invited to Mary’s Life Celebration on Sunday, December 30 from 2 to 5 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, December 31 at 10 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, MD. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 1120 G Street, N.W., Ste. 700, Washington, D.C. 20005.
