ary “Kathy†Katherine Barge, 52, a 30-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Landover Hills, MD died on February 5, 2009.
Born October 9, 1956 in Prince George's County, she was a 1975 graduate of Bladensburg Senior High School. After careers in banking and retail, she opted to being “Maw-Maw†to her beloved grandson, Steven. Mrs. Barge was a very active volunteer and member of the American Legion, Post 226 in Mayo, MD, where she chaired numerous children's holiday party events. She also volunteered many hours at the South River Health and Rehabilitation Center in Edgewater, MD. Kathy was a member of the Annapolis Moose Lodge, Chapter 296, an avid Redskins fan and also enjoyed NASCAR, stuffed animals, helping any and all people and, most of all, attending her grandson's football and basketball games.
She was the beloved wife of Steve M. Barge, whom she married in 1983; mother of James Earl Flynn, Jr. and Jennifer Marie Barge, both of Edgewater, MD; sister of the late James T. Bell; daughter of Nellie I. Bell of Annapolis, MD and the late James E. Bell, who died in 1985; and proud grandmother of Steven Michael Watts.
Friends are invited to Kathy's Life Celebration on Tuesday, February 10 from 4 to 7pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Interment private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 226, 830 Mayo Road, Edgewater, MD 21037.
