Mary Eulalia Butler - Obituary

M

ary Eulalia Butler, known as “Eula,” departed this life on August 28, 2016. She was the first child of ten, born to John Alvin Proctor and Mary Bernice Proctor on August 3, 1937. She married Bronsmore Butler in 1957. They were married for 56 years, until his death in 2013. From this union there were two children: Bronsmore Butler, Jr., and Valerie Wilcox. Eula graduated from Frederick Douglass High School and worked for C&P Telephone Company until her retirement in 1994. She loved gardening, reading, and watching her favorite television shows: “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy.” She loved oldies music. When she was young, she liked to attend parties, dance, and work in the yard. Her favorite pastime, though, was talking on the telephone. She knew a lot of people to call. Eula was a kind and gentle person. In her earlier years, she volunteered at election booths and even hosted an election event at her house. She loved talking to people and made friends very easily. Once you met her, you felt like you had known her for years. She loved good food, especially her son-in-law’s gumbo. She was a welcoming person, and she was loved by many. Eula leaves numerous family members to cherish her memory: a loving and devoted daughter, Valerie Wilcox and her husband Steve; three sisters, Valinda Garza (Daniel), Donna Smith (Otis), and Sandra Logan (Ervin); two brothers, Donald Proctor (Linda) and Jeffrey Proctor; five grandchildren, LaBrons, Nikitta, Lindsay, Courtney, and Ryan; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews. Eula’s memory will forever live on. She will never be forgotten. She was a special mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is now at peace with her husband and other family members and friends, and she will remain in all of our hearts. Family and friends are invited to Mrs. Butler’s Life Celebration on November 21, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 8908 Old Branch Ave., Clinton, MD.
