M

ary Kraynek Callahan, 89, a four-year resident of Annapolis and formerly of Silver Spring, Md., since 1965, died of natural causes Aug. 23 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center. The daughter of the late Wassyl and Antonette Kraynek, Mrs. Callahan was born May 26, 1918, in Monessen, Pa., where she graduated from high school. She was a homemaker and member of St. Mark's Russian Orthodox Church in Bethesda. Her interests included arts and crafts, painting, playing bingo and cards, and gardening. She was once name Volunteer of the Year for Montgomery County. On June 11, 1949, she married William R. Callahan, who died Dec. 7, 1975. She was the sister of the late Walter and Ethel Kraynek. Surviving are two sons, Stephen V. Callahan of Riva and Anthony M. Callahan of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Michael Kraynek of Monessen, Pa.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater, where funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Sept. 10 in Arlington National Cemetery.
